autumn-tableau-409830-mFall is fun! There is nothing like the crisp air, the bright colors, and the last push for outdoor adventures before the cold winds of winter start bringing everyone in doors. While you can still enjoy the outside, why not get your porch organized and decorated for Fall?

Fall is a great excuse for decorating, but who has the motivation when the front porch is filled with clutter and debris? This area sets the first impression whenever anyone visits your home.

Start by removing everything from your porch, so you can clean the floors. Shake out those rugs, use a broom to sweep away cobwebs that collect in corners and on windows. If you have one or can borrow one, consider using a power washer on the lowest setting to clean off your porch floor. Otherwise, use a cleaner, brush and a little elbow grease to get it clean and bright.

Put away anything that has to do with summer–the sandals, the beach toys, the forgotten towels tossed over the porch railing. The same goes for anything that has carelessly collected there because it has no where else to do. Toss or donate as needed. Remove dead plants and empty pots.

Now it is time to have fun. Think about how you could use and show off your porch. Set up a small seating area with a tiny table, set out some pumpkins and fall decoration, and add a welcome sign to your front door. Address problem areas, such as adding in a pretty canister to catch forgotten umbrellas.

Beautiful mums abound this time of year, and they can be quite colorful and inexpensive. In addition to home improvement stores, landscaping centers and even the grocery store, you may also find mums being sold by the boy scouts, schools, church groups and more for fundraising events.
